Introducing Simple Machine

Simple Machine makes theatre for artists and audiences. Simple machines are the essential building blocks of every complex mechanical device that moves and changes the world around us. Character, language, and action are the essential elements at the heart of all theatre. By focusing on these fundamentals, Simple Machine makes theatre that is engaging, accessible, and affordable.

Who we are

Simple Machine was founded by Anna Waldron and Stephen Libby. We are Boston-area actors who have worked in just about every aspect of theatre production, and we're thrilled to be presenting work that can only be done in the theatre!

Presenting our first production...

Penny is expecting an average night of family drama and excruciating theatre at her brother Tom's new play, which just happens to be about two estranged brothers. Roger, the big brother that Tom hasn't spoken to in years, is supposed to attend tonight's performance, but will he show up? Will Tom? When the fourth wall isn't as solid as it seems, Penny starts to question everything she thought she knew. What's real? What is theatre? And who are all these people watching?

rogerandtom's puzzle-box conceit and wicked comedy have earned comparisons to Stoppard and Pirandello. Developed with Personal Space Theatrics, it has run in New York, Los Angeles, and had a critically-acclaimed production in the 2011 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. This will be its New England premiere.

Performances March 30th through April 7th at the Davis Square Theatre. 255 Elm Street, Somerville

Stay tuned; tickets will be going on sale soon!

We have until March 15th to make our $2,500 goal, and we're more than halfway there. But we still need your help to get this show to the audience that we know will love it.
